MS Excel 2016 To Support Bitcoin Currency Format

Office 365 Roadmap

Microsoft Office 365 is the most popular application among the businesses. The Office 365 roadmap, that lists updates that are currently planned for applicable subscribers, has something in store for the bitcoin community.

According to the roadmap, ‘Bitcoin Currency Format Support’ will be rolled out to Excel 2016. Needless to say, this announcement signifies the growing popularity of Bitcoin.

The updates have been categorized into various categories depending on which stage they are at –

  • Launched: Fully released updates that are now generally available for applicable customers
  • Rolling out: Updates that are beginning to roll-out and are not yet available to all applicable customers
  • In development: Updates that are currently in development and testing
  • Cancelled: Previously planned updates that are no longer being developed or are indefinitely delayed
  • Previously released: Generally available updates for all applicable customers

The bitcoin currency format support update has been listed in the “In Development” stage and says:

“Now use Excel to track, calculate and analyze Bitcoin data using native Bitcoin number formatting options. Feature is first being rolled out to Excel 2016 for Windows, Excel Online, Excel Mobile for Windows and Excel Mobile for Android.”

This is definitely big news and a major step forward for the bitcoin community. Several Reddit users expressed their opinion. One user going by the name ‘pekatete’ wrote:

“It IS news! Looking forward to the first mainstream PFM that supports BTC as a currency ..... most formats have hard coded 3 letter currencies and reject cryptos thus you have to convert them to fiat first, but native support from Office is a huge step!”
