As bitcoin continues to spread it wings, multiple industries are starting to accept it as a payment option. One of the key attributes of bitcoin is that it is borderless. This enables its easy use across the globe, without having to visit currency exchanges and pay their commissions and fees. Moreover, it also helps in avoiding the need to carry much cash around.

Here’s a list of hotels and booking sites that accept the digital currency (some inputs have been taken from CoinDesk):

Expedia

The popular online hotel booking site announced last year that it will accept bitcoin for all hotel bookings. This made it the first major travel company to accept payments in digital currency. Bitcoin has been integrated into the payment options for customers at check-out, that includes other options such as PayPal, Visa as well.

Bitcoin entrepreneur Charlie Shrem announced last year that the Park Slope Holiday Inn Express is located on Union Street in Brooklyn will be accepting bitcoin payments in a pilot programme overseen by him. Bitcoin reservations are possible either by phone, online or in person. He said at the time that if the pilot goes well, the chain should open up more hotels to bitcoin paying customers.

One Shot Hotels

The Spanish hotel chain has been accepting bitcoin payments since 1st October 2014, using the services of BitPay, for two of its locations in Madrid (one with its own bitcoin ATM). New branches are planned in Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and London for the future and will accept the digital currency too.

Destinia

The Spanish online travel agency started accepting bitcoins since January 2014. Customers simply need to search the website and book their hotel, flight or any other product available. When they click on the Booking button and they will always see prices in mili-Bitcoins and their equivalent in euros to facilitate the process, the company says on its website.

Hotelgo 24

The online booking service started offering free Bitcoins for the customers who book hotel rooms with it. According to its website, Hotelgo24 offers a perfect solution for the summertime, especially for Bitcoin enthusiasts. Customers can make payment for their bookings through credit cards, including MasterCard and Visa. The registration is not required to use Hotelgo24.com, but it is essential for obtaining free Bitcoins, as well as entering an individual BTC address. Bitcoin cash back is send within 60 days of user check-out from the booked hotel. The amount of Bitcoin cash back that client will receive depends on the reservation value and BTC exchange rate on the day of booking.
