CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (21st October) and cover positions up to Tuesday (18th October). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions, however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.
Kindly note, in some cases, numbers are rounded to nearest decimal.
- Gold – Net position long and decreasing
Traders reduced their net long positions for third consecutive week. The net long position decreased by 15,601 contracts to +179.6K contracts.
- Copper – Position flipped from long to short
Traders reduced their net longs in such a way that the position flipped from long to short. The net-longs decreased by 15,468 contracts to -11.1K contracts.
- Silver – Net position long and decreasing
The net long position in silver declined for third consecutive week. The net longs decreased by 3,607 contracts to +59.3K contracts.
- WTI Crude – Net position long and decreasing
The net long positions decreased marginally last week as traders reduced the net long positions by 5,655 contracts to +408K contracts.
- Natural gas – Net position short and decreasing
Last week, traders reduced their short bets sharply. Net-short positions declined by 23,381 contracts to -31.1K contracts.
