Latest Commitment of Traders positions (Commodities) as of August 9th, 2016

CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (12th August) and cover positions up to Tuesday (9th August). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions, however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.

Kindly note, in some cases, numbers are rounded to nearest decimal.

  • Gold – Net position long and decreasing

The net-long in gold decreased last week. The net long position declined by 7,736 contracts to +286.4K contracts.      

  • Copper – Net position long and decreasing

Net short positions increased so that net position flipped from long to short.  The net-longs decreased by 7,860 contracts to -5.2K contracts.

  • Silver – Net position long and decreasing

The net-long position in silver got reduced by 2,370 contracts to +91.1K contracts. Net-longs saw a second consecutive decrease after long seven weeks of consecutive gains.

  • WTI Crude – Net position long and decreasing

Crude oil saw another reduction in net long positions by 8,942 contracts to +258.2K contracts. Net longs have declined for seventh consecutive week.        

  • Natural gas – Net position short and increasing

Natural gas net-shorts increased after a decline for third consecutive week. Net-short positions rose sharply by 11,724 contracts to -114.6K contracts.
