CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (26th August) and cover positions up to Tuesday (23rd August). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions, however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.
Kindly note, in some cases, numbers are rounded to nearest decimal.
- Gold – Net position long and increasing
After two weeks of consecutive decrease, the net-longs in gold increased last week. The net long position rose by 10,758 contracts to +294.6K contracts.
- Copper – Net position short and increasing
Net short positions increased only marginally last week. The net-shorts increased by 1,592 contracts to -6.6K contracts.
- Silver – Net position long and decreasing
The net-long position in silver got reduced by 1,786 contracts to +83.2K contracts. Net-longs saw a fourth consecutive decrease.
- WTI Crude – Net position long and increasing
Crude oil saw a very big rise in net long positions by 46,244 contracts to +353.7K contracts. In last two weeks, net longs rose by more than 95K contracts.
- Natural gas – Net position short and decreasing
Natural gas net-shorts decreased sharply last week. Net-short positions declined sharply by 16,099 contracts to -118.7K contracts.
