Latest Commitment of Traders positions (Commodities) as of August 16th, 2016

CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (19th August) and cover positions up to Tuesday (16th August). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions, however, it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.

Kindly note, in some cases, numbers are rounded to nearest decimal.

  • Gold – Net position long and decreasing

The net-longs in gold decreased again last week. The net long position declined by 2,596 contracts to +283.8K contracts.               

  • Copper – Net position short and decreasing

Net short positions decreased only marginally last week.  The net-shorts decreased by 104 contracts to -5.1K contracts.

  • Silver – Net position long and decreasing

The net long position in silver got reduced by 6,075 contracts to +85K contracts. Net-longs saw a third consecutive decrease after long seven weeks of consecutive gains.

  • WTI Crude – Net position long and increasing

Crude oil saw big rise in net long positions by 49,250 contracts to +307.5K contracts. Net longs rose after seven weeks decline.               

  • Natural gas – Net position short and increasing

Natural gas net-shorts increased sharply last week. Net-short positions rose sharply by 20,243 contracts to -134.8K contracts.
