Latest Commitment of Traders positions (Commodities) as at March 29th, 2016

CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (1st April) and cover positions up to Tuesday (29th March). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions, however it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.

Kindly note in some cases numbers are rounded to nearest decimal.

  • Gold – Net position long and increasing

Speculators increased gross long position by 3,436 contracts to +262.1K contracts and reduced gross short position by 7,539 contracts to -72.3K contracts. In another word net long position in gold increased by 10,975 contracts to +189.8K contracts.

  • Copper – Net position flipped to short

Speculators increased gross long position by 5089 contracts to +67.6K contracts and increased gross short position by 10,433 contracts to -72.03K contracts. In another word net short position in copper increased by 5,344 contracts to -4,426 contracts.

  • Silver – Net position long and decreasing

Speculators decreased gross long position by 3,440 contracts to +79.5K contracts and increased gross short position by -5,482 contracts to -25k Contracts. In another word. net long position in silver decreased by 8,922 contracts to +54.5K contracts.

  • WTI Crude – Net position long and decreasing

Speculators increased gross long position by 6,799 contracts to +534.64K contracts and increased gross short position by 9,265 contracts to -229.1K contracts. In another word net long position in WTI got decreased by 2,466 contracts to +305.5K contracts.

  • Natural gas – Net position short and decreasing

Speculators reduced gross long position by 7,199 contracts to +247.9K contracts and reduced gross short position by 19,383 contracts to -415.6K contracts. In another word net short position in Natural gas decreased by 12,184 contracts to -167.7K contracts.
