Kia expects its first vehicle built on Hyundai's new E-GMP modular electric platform to become their best-selling full-electric car in Europe.
The new Kia EV model would be a crossover with an SUV body style that is growingly popular. It would compete with the likes of the BMW i3 hatchbacks and Volkswagen ID 3.
Kia Europe COO Emilio Herrera expects to sell 10,000 to 15,000 of the EV model in Europe this year, even if it is not expected to go on sale until September.
Herrera didn’t give sales forecasts for 2022, but it could outsell Kia’s two EVs in Europe, the Soul and Niro.
The Soul EV accounted for 8,021 unit sales in Europe last year, while the e-Niro accounted for 31,000.
The e-Niro accounted for 31,000 unit sales in Europe last year, while there were 8,021 Soul EV units sold.
The new E-GMP platform allows 500 km ranges and quicker acceleration.
Kia plans to come up with seven vehicles on the platform globally by 2027.
The company also aims to have 11 full EVs by 2025, which would account for 30 percent of its Euro sales. The lineup would include new models and electric versions of existing vehicles like the Soul EV.
