Italian industrial production growth accelerates in December

The Italian industrial production growth accelerated in the month of December in sequential terms as well as in year-on-year terms. The seasonally adjusted industrial production index rose 1.6 percent sequentially from November’s upwardly revised grown of 0.2 percent. Consensus expectations were for the index to have 0.8 percent. The percentage change of the average of the past three months with respect to the earlier three months was 0.8.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, Italian industrial production index rose 4.9 percent, as compared with November’s year-on-year rise of 2.3 percent and coming above consensus expectations of a rise of 1.9 percent. In the January to December 2017 period, the percentage change was +3 as compared with the same period of 2016. The unadjusted industrial production index dropped 1.3 percent year-on-year in December.
