Surprise return is still an appropriate phrase to described “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 as more than five years passed without a word about the anime’s return. Luckily, that is no longer the situation of avid fans, although they still have to wait before seeing the next adventures of Tatsuya Shiba and his schoolmates.
‘Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 release date
The best thing about anticipating “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 now is that fans do not have to spend time guessing when it will be released. The anime’s renewal was announced last fall, along with the start of its production.
New episodes were later promised to arrive in summer. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the production of “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 to be postponed. The premiere has since been moved to fall, particularly within October.
‘Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 spoilers
Many anime-only fans might have already started reading Tsutomu Sato’s same title light novel series where the anime is based. No one can blame them considering the uncertainties about “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 for many years. On the bright side, they now have a good idea of what is going to happen next.
There will be some small changes, however, in the anime adaptation. “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 was announced to cover the Visitor Arc. This means that the anime is skipping an entire volume called Recollection Arc. But those familiar with the light novel would agree that this should not alter the plot from the pages to the small screen. Recollection Arc somewhat serves as a recap and prequel installment to recall Tatsuya and Miyuki’s recent adventures.
Having Visitor Arc as the material for “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 also means fans can expect most of the season 1 characters to return. There will also be introductions of new characters, who will have a significant effect on the story and development of Tatsuya.
‘Irregular at Magic High School’ season 2 production
The drought in the anime adaptation was briefly quenched in 2017 when “Irregular at Magic High School – The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars” was released. Its plot, technically, took place after the events of “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 or the Visitor Arc. It was also a huge success after garnering ¥163 million in gross ticket sales on its opening weekend in Japan.
That success should keep fans’ hopes up about the upcoming episodes as the studio that produced the movie, Eight Bit, is the same producer of “Irregular at Magic High School” season 2. The film’s production staff led by director Risako Yoshida along with all voice cast members, are going to reprise their roles as well.
