Global Geopolitical Series: Preparations for Trump-Putin meeting could be underway

Russia reports that President Trump has once again extended an invitation to President Putin to visit the White House during a phone call after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Presidential aide Yury Ushakov had said that a similar invitation was extended during a March 20th phone call between the two Presidents. Similar stories within a month suggest that the preparations for Trump-Putin meeting could be underway, however, it is not clear at this points whether President Putin would accept the invitation at a time when the United States have stacked up sanctions after sanctions against Russia, hurting its economy.

The latest round of sanctions has severely hurt the Russian Aluminum producing giant Rusal, which is the single biggest producer of Aluminum outside China.
