Global Geo-political Series: Trump and Putin won’t meet separately at APEC

According to White House communications, the much-anticipated one to one meeting between the U.S. President Donald Trump and the Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be meeting separately at the sidelines of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting due to scheduling conflicts. However, both will have a joint meeting with other leaders of APEC in the Vietnamese city of Danang.

White House Press Secretary told reporters, “Regarding a Putin meeting, there was never a meeting confirmed, and there will not be one that takes place due to scheduling conflicts on both sides….Now, they’re going to be in the same place. Are they going to bump into each other and say hello? Certainly possible and likely. But in terms of a scheduled, formal meeting, there’s not one on the calendar and we don’t anticipate that there will be one.”

The meeting was highly anticipated as Kremlin reportedly confirmed just days ago that there will be a meeting between the two and President Trump before leaving said that he would meet Putin during his 12-day Asia trip, with whom he has much to discuss, especially with regard to North Korea and the situation in Ukraine.
