Global Geo-political Series: Key updates from across the world

Here are some key events to keep a tab on,

  • EU, Catalonia, and Spain: Catalan’s independence leader Carles Puigdemont called for peaceful protest and disobedience against Spanish government which threatened to put the leader in jail. Over the weekend, thousands of pro-unity supporters gathered in Barcelona to show their support for a united Spain.
  • Iraq-Kurdistan: Kurdish leader Barzani confirmed that he would be stepping down as Independence bid backfired as Iraq takes control of vast regions in Kurdistan without much effort.
  • North Korea, U.S., and South Korea: North Korea calls Trump mentally ill in propaganda leaflets dropped over Seoul. Japan, South Korea, and the United States once again warned Pyongyang against escalating tensions.
  • German election: Incumbent Chancellor Angela Merkel continues to struggle to form a governing coalition with the Greens and Free Democrats over Climate change and refugee issue. Main opposition party leader Martin Schultz called for reelection if talks fail.
