Global Geo-political Series: DPRK’s U.N. envoy warns of sudden breakout of nuclear war

North Korea’s deputy UN ambassador has warned the UN General Assembly that a nuclear war could break out in the Peninsula suddenly due to the United States’ provocative actions. Mr. Kim In-ryong said to the assembly that North Korea remains the only country in the world, which is subjected to an extreme and direct nuclear threat from Washington. He accused the United States of hatching a plot aimed at removing the Supreme leadership.

He added, “the entire US mainland is within our firing range and if the US dares to invade our sacred territory even an inch it will not escape our severe punishment in any part of the globe…. the DPRK consistently supports the total elimination of nuclear weapons and the efforts for denuclearization of the entire world….. Unless the hostile policy and the nuclear threat of the US is thoroughly eradicated, we will never put our nuclear weapons and ballistic rockets on the negotiating table under any circumstances”.

The envoy clarified that there will no negotiations on its nuclear arsenal unless the United States renounces its own arsenal.

Despite intensifying gestures and remarks between the US, North Korea and the countries’ leaders, US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan told reporters that the United States remain open to direct talks with the DPRK.

Next month, the U.S. President is due to visit South Korea next month and will meet his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in.
