Global Geo-political Series: China mocks waning US influence

US election has exposed the United States elite as it became an open discussion that what the western countries did to Iraq and Libya was wrong. Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump even accused President Barrack Obama’s policies, to be responsible for the creation of the ISIS, the terrorist organization in the Middle East. He said that the world leaders do not respect President Obama. It was evident that when the President of the United States arrived in China for the G20 meeting, there was no red carpet for him, while the leaders of all other countries received it. After that, it was the Philippines newly elected President, Rodrigo Duterte, who announced that his country doesn’t want to be the brown brother of the United States anymore. He even called President Obama, “son of a bitch”. Last week, speaking at Beijing, Mr. Duterte announced his separation from the United States to join China. The Philippines probably exposed the failure of Barrack Obama’s “Asia Pivot”. Interestingly, Philippines won its claim against China over the South China Sea in international court ruling and the country was supposed to be an important ally in fighting the Chinese influence in the region.

China has risen up to the opportunity of US weakness in announcing that it is the greater regional power in Asia. After a US Navy guided missile destroyer sailed through the waters of the South China Sea, the People’s daily, the official mouthpiece of the Chinese government condemned the action. It said that what the United States did, driven by its hegemonic mentality can’t increase its influence in the region and such actions would only result in an accelerated decline of its global influence. The article said that China would never allow the United States to run amok in the South China Sea.
