Global Geo-political Series: After hitting at Trump over immigration in January Canada’s Trudeau changes tone

After bashing the US President Donald Trump over his tough immigration stance and welcoming all refugees entering Canada in January, it took just seven months for the Canadian Prime Minister to receive the side-effects of his affection with immigration. After announcing open door policy towards asylum seeker in January, which was considered by global media as a hit against the US President Prime Minister Trudeau seems to be changing his policies. The liberal hero is now realizing that his policy to welcome all refugees with open door might have been short-sighted.

In the months that have passed since Trudeau made his famous open door promise, the number of refugees streaming over the border into the Canadian province of Quebec surged dramatically, straining local resources available to process their claims of asylum and provide necessities like food and shelter. In addition to that, as the United States crack down on illegal immigration and gang violence, many members of violent groups such as MS13 have entered Canada looking to escape Federal agents and ICE.

President Trump has always been against illegal immigration in the United States but he was heavily criticized by other world leaders, who see him as a man against immigration. However, facing the reality, Mr. Prime Minister is ready to enforce President Trump’s medicine. In a news conference, the Prime Minister said, "If I could directly speak to people seeking asylum, I'd like to remind them there's no advantage……Our rules, our principles and our laws apply to everyone." He stressed that anyone seeking asylum in Canada will have to go through the country’s screening process.
