Fund flow analysis: Global MF equity

Mutual fund flow statistics are to gauge investor sentiment towards financial markets, especially to equities and bonds, from longer term investors’ perspective.

According to latest statistics available from Investment Company Institute (ICI), for the week ending March 16th,

Overall equity mutual funds suffer -$2.09 billion outflow.

• US mutual funds third consecutive weekly outflow of -$1.53 billion, of which -$1.27 came from Large-Cap, -$363 million from Mid-Cap, -$487 million from Multi-cap. Small-Cap sector received inflows of $238 million, its second consecutive weekly inflows.

• Other developed market mutual funds registered inflows of $452 million. This year so far, $24.9 billion has flown into other developed market mutual funds. Funds flew into other developed market mutual funds for staggering 12 straight week.

• Emerging market mutual funds saw one of the biggest weekly outflow of funds this year. For the week ending 16th, -$1.01 billion flew out, reversing $630 million inflows in last two weeks.
