Fund flow analysis: Global ETFs

Fund flow statistics are extremely helpful in understanding investor sentiment towards different sections of financial markets. Here we are tracking largest inflows and outflows from funds not the outflows from sectors. Latest fund flow statistics available, for the week ending 25th August, from ETF.com

Inflows –

  • Looking at last week’s fund flow, Risk affinity sentiment is clear. However, there seems to be discretion in choosing assets.
     
  • Vanguard S&P 500 index fund saw the biggest inflows of the week in the tune of $442.8 million, which can be seen as a major sign of risk affinity.
  • Energy select SPDR fund received inflows of $336.3 million.
     
  • Direxion daily Gold miners index bull 3x shares ETF received inflows of $322 million.
     
  • iShares core S&P small cap ETF saw inflows of $303.3 million.
  • iShares core aggregate  bond ETF received inflows of $258.9 million.

Outflows –

  • Compared to the inflows, outflows point to a little bit of risk aversion.
     
  • iShares Russell 2000 ETF saw the biggest outflows among peers in the tune of $1.12 billion. This is a sign of risk aversion.
     
  • SPDR S&P 500 ETF trust saw outflows of $906.3 million.
                  
  • United States Oil Fund suffered outflows of $324 million.
     
  • iShares MSCI Eurozone ETF registered outflows of $278 million. MSCI Europe hedged equity saw outflows of $270.2 million.
