Fund flow analysis: Global ETFs

Fund flow statistics are extremely helpful in understanding investor sentiment towards different sections of financial markets. Latest fund flow statistics available, for the week ending 4th May, from ETF.com

Inflows –

  • Looking at this week’s fund flow, risk aversion is clearly evident along with affinity for the yellow metal. However safe haven flows are nowhere near the levels seen in January, February.

 

  • SPDR Gold Trust saw biggest inflows, in tune of $944.2 million. iShares gold Trust received inflows of $300.7 million.

 

  • iShares iBoxx $ investment grade bond ETFs saw second biggest $586 million inflows, while iShares U.S. core Aggregate bond ETF received $475.9 million.

 

  • However affinity towards emerging market ETFs continued. iShares MSCI emerging market ETF received $418.7 million.

 

  • Some inflation fear could also be seen. iShares TIPS bond ETF received $424.3 million.

Outflows –

  • SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust saw biggest outflow of $6.38 billion, followed by Power Shares QQQ Trust ($2.49 billion). iSahres Russell 2000 ETF saw outflows of $686 million.

 

  • High Yield debt saw one of the biggest outflows of recent times. iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF saw $1.44 billion outflow.

 

  • Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund suffered outflows of $484.5 million.

 

  • iSahres 20+ year bond and iShares 1-3 year bond suffered $437.3 million and $237.7 million outflows respectively.
