French Election: Le Pen enjoys boost in polls, while Macron suffers

With less than a week to go to the second round of the French election, the Front National candidate Marine Le Pen is enjoying a boost in support, while the support for a Macron Presidency plummets by six points. Harris Interactive correctly predicted the outcome of the first round of the election with remarkable accuracy and their latest poll shows that the support for Macron has declined from 67 percent to 61 percent. However, the independent centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron still has more than 20 percent lead over Le Pen and most likely to become next French President.

Emmanuel Macron’s gaudy celebration after winning the first round of election has been one of the key factors behind his slip in the poll and his opponent, Madame Le Pen was quick to point out his arrogance of celebrating like he won the Presidency. While polls continue to predict a Macron Presidency, along with the betting markets, a very low turn around in the final election could make the race a nail-biting one as the conviction among Le Pen voters are highest among all. Betting market is currently predicting a ninety percent chance of a Macron Presidency. However, in the first round, abstention rate was more than 22 percent, which is the highest since 2002.
