Former software engineer at Coinbase launches search engine for decentralized web

One of the former software engineer at cryptocurrency exchange startup Coinbase and Uber – Antonio Juliano, has launched Weipoint, a search engine for the decentralized web.

The search engine can be used to search for and interact with Ethereum smart contracts and also offers verification of smart contract code. It is hoping to add a larger platform for reputation and trust in the future, Antonio said in his blog post.

“We’re planning to add search for entire Dapps (decentralized applications) in the near future and eventually anything behind decentralized domain services such as ENS,” he added.

The Dapps run directly on the blockchain, thus making them globally accessible and eliminating the need for trusted parties. Fe Dapps include Augur, which is a worldwide prediction market that forecasts the probability of any event; uPort that offers everyone a sovereign digital identity; Golem, which is a network to harness the power of idle computers and create supercomputer, among others.

According to Antonio, search engines such as Google are designed for traditional websites that exist on fundamentally different platform than decentralized apps. Weipoint indexes directly from blockchain and provides the most complete and relevant context to users.

Weipoint plans to solve the problem of trust and security of Dapps by providing a platform for reputation and proof of ownership, and by connecting Dapp creators with security reviewers.

“It’s still early days for both Weipoint and the entire decentralized community, but we hope to grow with the ecosystem and help spark the rise of the decentralized revolution,” Antonio concluded.
