Apple unveiled the latest iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, along with its new Apple Watch options, a revamped Apple TV and an iPad Pro at the much awaited event held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

An interesting announcement made during the event related to Facebook making a debut on Apple Watch in the form of a Messenger app. Users would now be able to send text messages, audio messages and even share their location.

It will enable users to talk to the Messenger app on their wrist watch and even have their friends listen to the message, thereby providing an unprecedented hands-free messaging.

Facebook told Techcrunch, “With Messenger for Apple Watch, people have a new way to stay connected with those they care about, by sending and receiving voice clips, Likes, stickers and more. We’re excited about the launch of Messenger for this platform and look forward to hearing people’s feedback.”

Facebook Messenger, with 700 million monthly users worldwide, is the biggest US messaging app outside of SMS and has the potential to transform the Apple Watch as a more serious communication device.

The Silicon Valley giant also unveiled new gold and rose gold Apple Watch Sport, more colored sport bands, and details of watchOS 2, that is currently in beta. The new Apple Watch OS, to be released on September 16th, enables installing native apps on the watch and offers new faces, and third-party complications, public Transit in Maps.

A few additional apps have also been added for the watch, including GoPro, AirStrip healthcare app and iTranslate.
