Dutch Election: Latest odds of most seats

The first European election of 2017 is almost upon us. On March 15th, the people of Netherlands would go to polls and it is expected that the right-wing, anti-Islamic Party for Freedom (PVV) led by Mr. Geert Wilders are set to gain most of the seats. No party, however, is expected to secure a majority in the 150 members strong parliamentary election; so the question can Mr. Wilders get close enough, which would raise the possibility of him forming the next government with other partners like the ruling VVD party led by the current Prime Minister  Mark Rutte. The majority of the Dutch parties have ruled out making a coalition with the PVV.

As of the latest from the betting market,

  • The participants are clearly pricing most seats for PVV. The odds that PVV will gain most of the seats vary from 55 percent to 60 percent. The odds were boosted by the recent reappearance of Mr. Wilders in the streets and in interviews after he temporarily suspended all appearances over a security leak from his own bodyguards.
  • The odds for next major rival, VVD party of Mark Rutte are varying from 41 percent to 48 percent.

While most of the other parties have ruled out a coalition with Mr. Wilders, a big win for the above two could actually lead to Mr. Wilders becoming the next Prime Minister.
