‘Degrassi: Next Class Season 3, Episode 3 Spoilers: "#WorstGiftEver" – Miles Finds it Hard to Continue Visiting Tristan; Goldi Struggles in Non-Muslim Culture

‘Degrassi: Next Class’ season 3’s episode 3, titled "#WorstGiftEver," is set to feature Miles as he finds it increasing difficult to continue visiting boyfriend Tristan, who is currently recuperating from the bus accident. Meanwhile, Goldi will continue struggling with being a Muslim in a non-Muslim culture.

The synopsis for episode 3 posted on TV Muse reads, “Jonah (Ehren Kassam) and Grace (Nikki Gould) pitch the Student Council on a play about the Degrassi bus accident. Goldi (Soma Bhatia) has questions about what it really means to be Muslim.”

Jonah and Grace attempt to get the Student Council to pass a possible play about the Degrassi bus accident that left Tristan (Lyle Lettau) seriously injured and recuperating at a hospital. It would be interesting to see how the Student Council would treat the idea considering that it is a controversial one.

Meanwhile, Miles (Eric Osborne) will find it difficult to continue visiting Tristan. According to TV Line, Miles spent his entire vacation staying by Tristan’s side and desperately clinging to his boyfriend’s recovery. However, other students haven’t been accepting nor empathetic of his misery save Lola (Amanda Arcuri), who was also dealing with her own personal drama.

Miles seemed to have turned his affections to Lola after the two got flirty during after-school detention. It seems that the two will develop a relationship in succeeding episodes.

On the other hand, Lola is set to have a powerful storyline as the season progresses. According to Yahoo! TV, the series has written in an abortion plotline for the character in the eighth episode titled “#IRegretNothing.”

Executive producer Linda Schuyler explained, “It’s not like we are advocating, ‘Get pregnant, get an abortion'… But we really felt that it was very important, particularly in this day and age when the abortion debate is coming back on the main stage, that we wanted to demystify it. We’ve also done an equal number of stories of kids who get pregnant and make different choices.”

The episode will feature Arcuri’s character receiving her results and eventually undergoing the procedure as well as Lola’s feelings about the decision afterwards. Arcuri said, “Some girls will … cry for days after, and some will feel strong and feel liberated and feel like it wasn’t a big deal.”

She added, “I think it’s a good way to tell a story — that people react differently. Lola’s reaction is justified. It’s normal. It’s OK.”

Meanwhile, the incoming episode will also feature Goldi as she struggles to come to terms with being a Muslim in a culturally different setting. The series has taken Syria’s refugee crisis into its plot, with episode 1 introducing the refugee children into the Degrassi high school. Goldi got off at a sour start with accusations that she was homophobic following her comment that the LGBTQ students made the new Syrians uncomfortable.

‘Degrassi: Next Class’ season 3’s episode 3, titled "#WorstGiftEver," is scheduled to air on Family (F2N) on January 11, 2017. The episode was directed by Stefan Brogren and written by Alejandro Alcoba. It was released on Netflix together with other episodes last January 6.
