What:
Code.org®, a non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science and to increasing participation in computer science by women and underrepresented students of color, will visit the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square. The visit highlights Code.org’s global Hour of Code campaign during Computer Science Education Week (December 7-13, 2015). On Monday, Code.org, Google and Microsoft hosted a #HourOfCode kickoff pep rally at Nasdaq to underscore the tech industry’s commitment to an international movement that brings together more than 350 organizations, 191,000 educators and tens of millions of students in 180 countries this week with a common goal to encourage girls and boys to complete a one-hour online coding tutorial and to inspire them to keep learning computer science. To date, more than 100 million students have participated in an Hour of Code.
In honor of the occasion, Hour of Code partner Fred Wilson, Chairman of the New York City Foundation for Computer Science Education (CSNYC) will ring the Opening Bell. Joining Mr. Wilson are local education partners as well as high school students from the Bronx Academy for Software Engineering and the Academy for Software Engineering in Manhattan.
