Co-founder of start-up 21 unveils bitcoin based software

Co-founder of 21 and venture capitalist Balaji Srinivasan unveiled new payment software aiming at helping developers build applications based on bitcoin transactions.

During Consensus 2016 conference in New York this month which was dedicated to blockchain, Srinivasan revealed new software which is available for free download. Srinivasan believes that the apps built by the software will one day replace the registration forms and paywalls governing access to online content.

Talking on a panel he said, “I think what happens in next five to ten years is Bitcoin becomes the currency over the internet for machine payments and similar things.” He added saying, “Then over the next 20 years, it becomes the currency of the next world which is virtual reality. That’s where I think things really happen, once you start spending more time in VR than on the ground.”

Relating hypothetically that computers could send and receive bitcoins as hassle free online service payments, he said that rather than hoisting a paywall a website could charge bitcoins for each visit. “Every time you load a webpage is a HTTP request which is a lot of HTTP requests. If you are earning a bitcoin on every HTTP requests, that could be a lot of earned bitcoins,” said Srinivasan.

The machine web what Srinivasan calls it after linking machines through payments, is the next step after the World Wide Web. It brought people together over networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn by connecting content through web pages and hyperlinks.

In his keynote speech at Consensus 2016, Srinivasan announced saying, “Every computer is now a bitcoin computer and the software is free to download for Mac and Linux users as of now. Windows users must wait.”

In 2013, Srinivasan became a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz and co-founded San Francisco based 21. The company has since secured $120 million in venture funding from fintech financiers like Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures etc.
