A volatile loonie was back near C$1.21 after strengthening below C$1.20 on Wednesday to 3 ½ month peaks. Oil softened below fresh peaks for the year which took some air out of the loonie's sails.
Meanwhile, good news on the U.S. job market on the eve of Friday's big monthly employment figures helped the greenback stabilize after its massive Wednesday rout.
