Briferendum Series: key political updates

Lots are happening surrounding the referendum, especially on the political front.

  • A clear division has emerged in the United Kingdom’s Labour Party. Lot many members have called for the resignation of Jeremy Corbyn, the leader, due to his dim role in campaigning against Brexit. Corbyn has fired his shadow secretary. Shadow chancellor John McDonnell has backed his party leader Jeremy Corbyn. But deputy Labour leader has asked Corbyn to step down.
     
  • Confederation of British Industries (CBI) has tried to inject a sense of urgency by saying that the businesses need to know, who the person making the decision is. The question is more likely that who is the next Prime Minister?
     
  • George Osborne, UK’s chancellor of exchequer gave a speech trying to assure the people that Britain is much better shape due to his past efforts to handle the uncertainty. It was more like his bid to remain relevant and keep his bid for the top position alive. He was seen as a successor to Cameron, a position that is now threatened by Boris Johnson.
     
  • Former London mayor and political face of exit and most likely to be the next Prime Minister, Boris Johnson said that project fear is over and markets including pound stable. He should look into the market. Pound curved a new low below last Friday’s and Gilts’ yield have declined below 1 percent for 10-year.
     
  • French foreign minister said that the UK will not get an automatic Swiss deal.
     
  • German Chancellor Merkel said that there will be no informal talk without official Article 50 trigger.
