Briferendum Series: Betting odds drop to just 59 percent for “Stay” camp

With just nine days to referendum, exit camp is gaining and they are gaining everywhere. Most of the polls released lately show that exit camp is having leads. Last Friday, a poll by “The Independent”, gave exit backers a lead of 10 percentage points over the stay backers. Over the weekend, a poll by “Opinium” gave 19 percentage points lead to the exiteers. After that this week, an ICM/Guardian poll gave 6 percentage points lead and YouGov poll gave 7 percentage points lead to the exit camp.

Amid all this lead, only one poll among the prominent ones, conducted by ORB for the Telegraph gave the stay camp just 1 percentage points lead over the out backers. In the last 20 major polls conducted stay camp is leading in 8 of them only.

Betfair, which is a betting side, prominent for political betting, reported that betting odds have shrunk swiftly for the stay camp. Last Thursday, odds were 78 percent in favor of staying but that dropped to 59 and most likely to decline further by day-end.

Another key tracker, Financial Times’ poll of polls is showing 2 percent lead for the exit camp.

Market reactions suggest investors are increasingly becoming nervous over the prospect of the exit.

The pound has been under decline and currently trading at 1.413 against Dollar.
