Blizzard Announces New ‘Overwatch’ Moon Map With Low Gravity

Blizzard has been teasing Overwatch fans with a new map recently and the publisher finally announced that, yes, it is set on the moon. Specifically, it’s set on the Horizon Lunar Colony. Aside from the map, the new event will also feature a backstory of one of the game’s most iconic characters; Winston. There might even be a new character if the developers’ hints are to be believed.

All right, so the announcement came via YouTube video where Blizzard showcased some of the areas that players will be battling each other at minimal gravity. The footage takes inspiration from another short video called “Recall” where Winston gets a flashback about his origins and the moon colony.

The more recent footage offers quite a bit more detail regarding the lovable ape’s story and a possible character in the form of Hammond. As the story goes, it would seem that two specimens escaped from a lab on the moon; Specimen 28 and Specimen 8. Winston is the first and Hammond is the second, though, there are still quite a few questions left unanswered. Is Hammond another ape or something else entirely?

In any case, the new map goes to the public test realm today, Forbes reports, so players can give it a spin to see what fighting without much gravity feels like. The publication is also noting the nice change of pace with regards to the kind of environment that players will fight on now, with some of the other maps getting a bit stale.

For those who want to try out the low gravity setting for themselves, Game Rant reports that players can actually activate the feature on Custom Games if they want. This will allow the fans themselves to judge whether the low gravity thing is nothing more than a gimmick or if it’s an actual feature that they want.
