Apple Aims To Make Developers’ Jobs Easier With New Startup Acquisition

Apple acquires startups all the time and its most recent acquisition is the Canadian firm, Buddybuild. The noteworthy aspect of this development is how the startup was intended to make the work of developers much easier via testing and improvements. Apple’s acquisition of the startup could lead to vastly improved workflows for developers making apps for iOS devices.

In a blog post, Vancouver-based Buddybuild announced that it was going to become part of Apple’s umbrella going forward. It will apparently become a member of the fabled Xcode engineering arm of the iPhone maker.

“We're excited to share that the buddybuild team has joined the Xcode engineering group at Apple to build amazing developer tools for the entire iOS community,” the post reads. “We've always been proud to be a Canadian company, so we're also pleased that we will be staying right here in Vancouver — a hotbed of developer and engineering talent.”

As to what the new team will be working on exactly, it’s not yet known, Ars Technica reports. Based on Buddybuild’s specialty, however, it will most likely have something to do with debugging as well as farming feedback from users.

This is yet another step to attract more developers to the iOS ecosystem for Apple, which has always been one of the company’s priorities. The more people or companies develop apps for its devices, the more customers will be interested in buying iPhones or iPads.

With the arrival of the iPhone X and all the new features that come with it, including the TrueDepth camera and the augmented reality technology that Apple is investing in, it only makes sense that it would want to make the jobs of developers as easy as possible. After all, if there are no developers making software for its hardware, the company won’t sell as many devices. Nokia Windows Phones can attest to that.
