According to latest reports, Airbnb, an online marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodations around the world, has hired a majority of employees from ChangeCoin, the company behind bitcoin-based micropayments service ChangeTip, Quartz reported.
Although, the total number of employees appointed in the process remains unknown at the moment, CEO and Co-founder Nick Sullivan has been hired by Airbnb.
ChangeTip, the first product of ChangeCoin, integrates payment processing with social media and makes it easy to send and receive money online. It allows users to send “bitcoin tips” over social media. The Bitcoin micro-transactions startup raised $3.5 million in March last year in a funding round lead by Pantera Capital.
CoinDesk reported that the ChangeTip codebase remains unacquired, along with the developers working specifically on bitcoin projects. However, those who invested in the firm have expressed optimism that the project would continue under the new leadership.
Last month, Nathan Blecharczyk, co-founder of Airbnb, told CityAM that the company could consider blockchain technology to help improve user trust.
Founded in August of 2008 and based in San Francisco, California, Airbnb connects people to unique travel experiences, at any price point, in more than 34,000 cities and over 190 countries.
