‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 2, entitled “Today Will Be Different”, is set to feature Bonnie’s attempts to break Enzo free from Sybil’s control. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen as to whether Stefan could successfully save his own brother from the murderous siren.
The synopsis posted on Carter Matt stated, “After learning that someone from Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) past may be Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo’s (Michael Malarkey) next target, Stefan, Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline (Candice King) head to North Carolina. There, Bonnie takes drastic measures in an attempt to break Enzo free of whatever has a hold over him. At the Armory, Alaric (Matt Davis) and Georgie (guest star Allison Scagliotti) stumble upon a mysterious symbol that may be related to the supernatural force controlling Damon and Enzo. Finally, Caroline gets an unexpected surprise from Stefan.”
The preceding episode, “Hello Brother”, introduced a brand new villain into the series. Sybil, as she is called, is a siren controlling Damon and Enzo to do bad things to “bad people.” Although Damon seems to have turned off his humanity and is ruthless as Sybil’s lackey, it seems that Enzo still has some resistance.
It would be interesting to see how Bonnie could somehow lure Enzo back to his old self in the incoming episode. Despite Stefan’s efforts, however, it seems that he may begin to lost hope of ever getting his older brother back now that he was totally under the power of the evil Sybil.
During an interview with TV Line on the Atlanta set, Wesley and Somerhalder talked about the new antagonist and the show’s religious undertones. Wesley explained, “This season is really about … the conclusion of what evil sins must these characters pay their dues for.”
The new episode’s promo opened to Damon lounging on a chair when Sybil tells him, "Get up sleepy head. It's time for fun." She is then seen pushing a man in a suit into a pool of water. It is unclear whether this man is her new victim or new henchman.
By the end of the promo, Sybil is seen interrupting Damon’s memories of Elena. She asks, “Where does your subconscious go when you're trying to resist me."
‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 2, entitled “Today Will Be Different”, is scheduled to premiere on The CW on October 28, 2016. It was directed by Pascal Verschooris and written by Melinda Hsu Taylor.
