‘South Park’ Season 22 to Cover School Shooting; Creators Want Show Cancelled After ‘South Park’ Season 23?

While the show has been known to cover controversial topics, it seems “South Park” Season 22 is going the extra mile by delving into school shootings in the first episode. A promo clip even depicts the typical reaction from people when talking about such things, which is to ignore the event. On that note, it seems the show’s creators have been teasing its cancellation after “South Park” Season 23.

In the short “South Park” Season 22 promotional video posted on its official YouTube channel, South Park Studios showed a dinner scene where Stan is prompted by his mother to tell his father about the school shooting. After doing so, Randy simply asked if his son did the shooting or if he got shot before moving on to another topic. This likely refers to the desensitization of Americans to the violence brought about by school shootings. Will the show make it to “South Park” Season 23 after this?

With so many mass shootings occurring in the U.S. on a regular basis, it’s clear that many citizens would much rather ignore these horrific occasions than do something about them. This is just the first episode of “South Park” Season 22, too, and it could be enough to make the prospect of “South Park” Season 23 questionable.

Speaking of promos, new clips related to “South Park” Season 22 have also been coming out teasing the show’s cancellation. Following a narrator saying how "America has reached a crossroads” and whatnot, it was then followed by the hashtag "#cancelsouthpark." Does this mean that “South Park” Season 23 will be the last season of the hugely popular comedy program?

As Pop Culture recently noted, it’s unlikely for the show to be canceled in “South Park” Season 22 at least. The series has been ordered for more episodes until “South Park” Season 23, so there should be another season in its belt. The creators have also previously said that a cancellation would be the only way for the show to end. So this new promo could be referring to something else, which fans will learn when the show premieres on Sept. 26.
