Naver Webtoon is set to release three new webtoon series, and they are quite special because these will be published in partnership with DC Comics. The project is part of the Korean company's expanded deal with the American comic book publisher and unit of DC Entertainment.
As per The Korea Herald, Naver Webtoon and DC Comics announced on Friday, April 8, that they will be launching a project series of webtoon titles. The three new DC originals that will be featured as webtoon series are "Red Hood: Outlaws," "Vixen: NYC," and "Zatanna & The Ripper." These titles will start running on Naver Webtoon starting next month.
This follows Naver Webtoon and DC Comic's project that was unveiled in September of last year. The two companies released "The Batman: Wayne Family's Adventure," which featured the DC universe and its popular characters. It was reported that this first project had attracted more than 942,612 subscribers and readers rated it high with 9.76 points on Naver Webtoon's platform.
"This (upcoming) collaboration is meaningful in that it is a cross-border project using technologies of Naver Webtoon, a pioneer of the new cartoon format, and DC, which holds legendary IP resources," a Naver Webtoon official said.
The Korea Times further quoted DC's vice president of sales and marketing, Nancy Spears, as saying in a statement. "The DC and Naver Webtoon partnership is an exciting opportunity to explore new genres with DC's iconic Super Heroes and Super-Villains, telling new stories that both new and old fans can enjoy."
The launch of the three new webtoon titles is said to be part of Naver Webtoon's Super Casting, a project where the company produces web novels in addition to webtoons based on intellectual property or IPs of international entertainment content, The Korea Economic Daily reported.
Meanwhile, the three new webtoon series will be released starting next month, starting with "Vixen: NYC," which tells the life story of Vixen, a young superheroine. It will be out on May 26, followed by "Red Hood: Outlaws" and "Zatanna & The Ripper," which will be posted in the second half of this year.
