Domestic power giant Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at two McDonald’s branches in the Philippines to provide better and more environmentally sustainable stores for the fast-food chain’s customers.
McDonald’s Philippines operator Golden Arches Development Corp. (GADC) tapped Meralco subsidiary eSakay for the installation project.
Meralco said they will heighten its collaboration with McDonald’s as it plans to deploy EV charging stations to more branches.
The EV charging stations, each accommodating two users at a time, with two outlets having a power rating of 2,200 watts each, will be coin-operated for just a minimal fee of 23.89 won for a five-minute charge; 119.46 won for a 25-minute charge; and 238.93 won for a 50-minute charge.
The charging stations are designed for electric bikes or e-scooters.
Raymond B. Ravelo, chief sustainability officer of Meralco and president of eSakay, indicated that the company now looks forward to “working very closely with even more companies in driving key sustainability programs.
Meralco is converting its vehicle fleets into zero-emissions EVs, including motorcycles, e-cars, electric vans, and pick-ups.
