iPhone 14 Pro specs: Apple is rumored to increase its RAM to 8GB

Apple has yet to conduct its anticipated spring launch event this year, but it is not strange for rumors about the next generation of iPhones to start circulating online. Most recently, a new claim was published online stating that the tech giant is planning to increase the RAM available in the iPhone 14 Pro.

One of the big differences between iPhones and Android smartphones is that the former do not see an increase in available RAM as often as the latter. But Apple’s in-house SoCs that power iPhones and the iOS are both designed and optimized to deliver fast (if not faster) performance like its premium Android counterparts. This explains why RAM is not a common talking point when discussing a new iPhone’s technical specifications. But that does not mean the iPhone could not use a RAM upgrade once in a few years. And a new rumor recently suggested that that could happen later this year.

The report comes from a blog post on Naver from user yeux1122. Through machine translation, the post claims that the source from South Korean supply chain sources have stated that the iPhone 14 Pro would be released with an 8GB RAM. Orders for parts necessary to make this change happen have reportedly been confirmed. The same sources suggested that “the scheduling for mass production seems to proceed faster.”

While the report did not mention it, if Apple is planning to increase the RAM to 8GB on iPhone 14 Pro, that likely means the iPhone 14 Pro Max will benefit from the same upgrade. Over the past three years, Apple showed that almost all exclusive features and specs to “Pro” models are available to both the iPhone “Pro” and “Pro Max” variants.

Other publications, however, advise Apple fans to take the rumor with a grain of salt, noting that the yeux1122 does not have much of a track record to go on. MacRumors pointed out that the same source incorrectly claimed that iPad mini 6 was shipping with an 8.7-inch screen (it actually has an 8.3-inch display), but they were right about the timing of the tablet’s release and the changes in the chassis for the tablet.
