Apple recently started seeding iOS 15.4 beta 4 that allowed developers, and essentially regular iPhone users, to see the list of potential changes coming to the next update. It appears that some of the most important changes to arrive soon will improve the notification options on the Find My app that should help people see if a rogue AirTag is nearby.
The AirTag-related changes in iOS 15.4 beta 4, as first spotted by 9To5Mac, follows Apple’s announcement of the list of updates to improve security even for people who are not using the tiny tracking device. The tech giant announced earlier this month that it is going to apply a clearer message when people set up a new AirTag.
A screenshot from the report shows that the Find My app in iOS 15.4 beta 4 is displaying a notice that tells AirTag users their tracking device is linked to their Apple ID. The new prompt also includes clear reminders that AirTag is designed only to track the user’s belongings and that it is illegal in many countries to use it to track people without their consent. Apple will also let new AirTag users know that AirTag can be detected by others, including law enforcement, in an apparent bid to discourage people from using the device for the wrong reasons.
More important changes appeared in iOS 15.4 beta 4, including the new Tracking Notifications options that are separate from the Find My app settings. A new “Notification Delivery” section appears below the Allow Notifications toggle. It gives iOS users the option of whether to receive tracking alerts right away or set a schedule. The latter could be used if iOS users want to receive immediate alerts during the usual time they drive back home to see if an unknown AirTag is following them.
The tech giant also announced earlier this month that it is working on bringing the Precision Finding feature. As the name suggests, the function will give users more specific details, including distance and directions, to find a nearby AirTag that has been following them. There is no mention of it yet in iOS 15.4 beta 4, but Apple promised it will be available to iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 users later this year.
