Recently, a Tencent Keenlab researcher named Liang Chen announced that his jailbreak method successfully bypassed the security measures of the iOS 12. Chen said that he employed the method on the iPhone XS Max and managed to weave through Apple’s outfitted obstacles and unlocked the device.
While there are a lot of developers out there claiming that their process has also seen success in this regard, Chen’s method seems to be the only jailbreak pathway that works. A famous developer going by the name of Kudima previously submitted an exploit that is thought to be the key in breaching Apple’s latest operating system.
Kudima’s jailbreak process reportedly involves a WebKit RCE designed to take advantage of the GitHub repository as a means to slink through the cracks. After releasing the method to the public, many users were thankful and eager to try it on the iOS 12.
However, they soon realized that Kudima’s jailbreak process wasn’t exactly going to punch directly through the operating system as it was a PoC (Proof of Concept), Billionaire365 reported. This isn’t to say that Kudima is not a talented developer, far from it. Kudima, also called BigD in the community, is a well-known researcher who is actively trying to jailbreak the latest iOS.
And this method of his will play a vital role in the jailbreak process that would eventually wind its way to public knowledge. As for Chen’s method, it isn’t clear whether or not he’ll be releasing his code to the masses.
Most of the time, researchers who managed to successfully exploit an operating system usually sell their code to third-parties, other hackers, or submit it to Apple in order for the company to patch the crack. Chen is reportedly going to present his jailbreak code on the upcoming POC 2018 but will only be demonstrating the process, which means details about it will not be unveiled.
