Dr Jonathan W. Marshall is a practicing theatre critic and scholar of interdisciplinary performance. Marshall’s PhD was in history, and he has built on this background to publish extensively on cultural history and performance, tackling topics which range across Japanese dance (butoh), medicine and performance (history of hysteria, neurology, the medical lecture as performance), landscape, photomedia, and animal studies. Marshall’s reviews and commentary has been presented in “The Age,” “The Big Issue Australia,” “IN Press magazine” (Melbourne), 3RRR, 3PBS, “Theatreview New Zealand,” and Radio Otago (NZ). Marshall was a contributing editor to the national arts and performance magazine “RealTime Australia,” 2000 – 2018. Marshall has worked in Melbourne, Perth, and New Zealand.
