I am a professor and Canada Research Chair at the University of Guelph specializing in embodiment studies and in creative and storytelling methodologies. Ten years ago, I moved from Trent University to Guelph, founding Re•Vision: The Centre for Art and Social Justice as an arts-informed research centre with a mandate to foster inclusive communities, social well-being, equity, and justice. I've had a busy and fulfilling career, and have been gratified to receive awards for research, mentorship and advocacy. Since becoming a professor, I've written on embodied difference, mental difference, weight stigma, intersectionality, non-normative cultures, and accessibility and inclusion. I currently am the Principal Investigator of Bodies in Translation: Activist Art, Technology and Access to Life (which I co-direct with the brilliant Dr. Eliza Chandler), a 7-year multi-partnership project that seeks to cultivate disability, fat and aging activist arts and study its impacts on audiences with an aim to advance social justice in Canada and beyond.
