“Blue Bloods” season 9 is going to be one of the TV shows premiering this fall. Many of the stories are naturally unknown to fans for now. But one possibility for the next season is seeing Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) with a new police partner.
Before “Blue Bloods” season 9 arrives, Jamie has been partnered with Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray). And fans who have been following the show now know that their work relationship ended up in romantic engagement by the end of season 8.
However, there might be some conflicts resulting from Jamie and Eddie’s engagement. For one, actor Tom Selleck previously hinted that his character, Frank Reagan, is not fully on board with Jamie’s relationship with Eddie.
In a previous interview with TV Insider, Selleck gave some teaser about “Blue Bloods” season 9. “Frank doesn’t want [Jamie] to be the first in NYPD history to ride with their fiancée. Most cops would say it could affect one’s judgment,” Selleck said. “Frank wants his son to be happy, and yet he’s got this hyperactive sense of responsibility. He already lost one son in the line of duty."
Frank, being the patriarch of a police family and the police commissioner will definitely mean business even when it comes to his son’s love life. Selleck’s teaser might be implying that Frank is not 100 percent happy with Jamie’s engagement and he could be giving them a hard time. But it could also mean he will simply order some changes regarding Jamie's patrol partner.
Reports suggest that Frank’s decision could lead to Jamie having a new police partner. While this does not seem to be much of a big deal, introducing a new character on a TV show can open up an interesting strife, which might have an effect on Jamie and Eddie.
The cast and crew of the police procedural show returned to set and started filming last month. “Blue Bloods” season 9 is slated to premiere on Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
