Officer Jamie Reagan’s (Will Estes) pursuit of eternal love with Officer Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) will cause more problems for his family. This is going to be one of the highlight plots fans will have to watch once “Blue Bloods” season 9 returns later this year.
To recap, the show is not just any other police procedural drama mostly because its story revolves around a family of New York Police Department officers. The patriarch, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), also happens to be the city’s Police Commissioner. And he will be having a hard time accepting his son Jamie’s engagement with Eddie in “Blue Bloods” season 9.
Selleck told TV Insider in an interview published on June 20 why Frank is not a fan of the Jamie-Eddie love tandem even in “Blue Bloods” season 9. "Frank doesn’t want him to be the first in NYPD history to ride with their fiancée," Selleck said. "Most cops would say it could affect one’s judgment. Frank wants his son to be happy, and yet he’s got this hyperactive sense of responsibility. He already lost one son in the line of duty."
Some fans might think that maybe the uptight father and police chief just needs to find his own love interest to slowly accept the romance between Jamie and Eddie. Though Selleck did not confirm any details about a possible romance for Frank, the actor reportedly said he is “thrilled” that the character of New York City Law Department’s Kelly Peterson, portrayed by Bebe Neuwirth, is back in “Blue Bloods” season 9.
Fans may recall that Neuwirth played the same role in season 4. But her appearance as the same character was also a very nice surprise at the end of season 8. The show’s executive producer, Kevin Wade, also admitted that they were looking to have Kelly in more scenes.
“We are very much hoping to have her back recurring as that character. So we're meeting the last couple of days talking about stories, and that's a big part of it,” Wade told TV Insider last May. “There is a mutual respect there and a little spice of mutual attraction, even though they often work from opposite sides of the table.”
And with Selleck’s hints that Kelly is definitely back, maybe fans will see more scenes of both characters together. “Blue Bloods” season 9 returns on Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
