YouTube App Rolls Out Mobile Live Streaming; Super Chat Out Of Beta Phase

Early this week, YouTube unveiled its live video recording for its mobile app, allowing access to content creators who have at least 10,000 subscribers, TechCrunch reported.

Moreover, the SuperChat feature, a service allowing viewers to pay to bump up their comments in the video stream, is now out of beta. The maximum amount “air time” on offer is reportedly for USD500.

According to the Google-owned company, the new features will allow content creators to monetize from the ad revenues. Content creators, Mashable said, are already participating in a 45%-55% split from regular videos. The Live Video option on the mobile app will allow any content creator the opportunity to communicate with their followers and audiences.

“This is their home. This is where their fans are,” said Kurt Wilms, a YouTube product manager, at a media briefing.

The company, who has plans to open the features to all at a later time, but has yet to offer a timetable.

Phoenix-based dad Clint McGintus, who since made his name in the YouTube universe as Clint Comer, welcomed the features. McGintus amassed around 300 million views for documenting his family life and a love of gaming on his Clintus.tv channel.

“A lot more YouTubers are going to start doing more live streams now that it’s more available to them. If they can pull the phone out of their pocket and start going live, there is more potential for revenue. When this becomes your business, it drives a lot of the decisions you make.”
