It has been a while since Nintendo fans got a new “Xenoblade Chronicles” content, even for its latest installment. However, that could change in the coming months as its rumored third installment is reportedly planned to be announced before the end of the year.
The second “Xenoblade Chronicles” was one of the early titles released months after the first Nintendo Switch came out in 2017. At the time, it had been more than seven years since the first game launched, but the sequel’s commercial success proved Monolith Soft’s action RPG remained popular all those years.
After just less than six months, the sequel reportedly sold more than 1.3 million copies. It is then not surprising that fans are looking forward to the development of “Xenoblade Chronicles 3.”
Now, Fanbyte reports that it has sources claiming that “Xenoblade Chronicles 3” was initially planned to be announced earlier this year. However, the developer reportedly encountered some challenges caused by the pandemic, as well as issues in optimizing the upcoming game for the Switch console.
However, the same report adds that “Xenoblade Chronicles 3” could still be announced before the end of 2021. The third main title installment could also feature upgraded gameplay as Monolith is reportedly aiming to have more characters – both playable and NPCs – on the screen at the same time.
This is not the first time that the development of “Xenoblade Chronicles 3” has been reported. Fanbyte also took note of an earlier interview with actress Jenna Coleman in June, which started speculations about the release of the next game.
“God, when was the first game? Ten years ago? It was a long time ago, I did it pre-'Doctor Who’ days, and when they did the second one, they asked me to come back. And I think they’re going to do another,” Coleman said in a video chat posted on the Din’s Meteorite YouTube channel.
Coleman’s statement should not be taken as a confirmation, though. But she will likely have knowledge about the third title’s development. Coleman voiced Melia in the first two games, and she is one of the characters likely to return should there be “Xenoblade Chronicles 3.”
