By all accounts, “XCOM 2” is a fantastic game that surpassed all expectations. Thanks to the numerous mods that the game welcomed, engagement with players was kept high. With the new DLC that “2K Games” is releasing called “Shen’s Last Gift,” players are about to get the biggest expansion of the game. Not only does it come with robots, it also has story content.
As AttackOfTheFanBoy put it, the biggest difference between the latest DLC and the ones in the “Reinforcement Pack” is the story addition. Players will be able to experience a new mission, which will involve the “Shen” family, hence the name of the expansion.
Players who experienced “XCOM Enemy Uknown and Enemy Within” will already be familiar with one of the members of the Shen family, “Engineer Raymond Shen.” For those who are playing “XCOM 2,” “Lily Shen” should already be a known name.
For this DLC, “Lily” will be leading a mission that involves entering some sort of facility housing technology that will make mech fans extremely happy.
Dubbed the “Spark-001,” players will be able to build a unit of robots that will have versatile functionality and clear advantages compared to human soldiers. For one thing, they are more durable, but this doesn’t mean that they don’t have flaws.
The robots are huge, which makes them bigger targets for the enemy. For another, they don’t take cover, which human soldiers are apt to do. The latter issue is offset by the high defense of the robots, which is likely why the developers didn’t want to create a balance issue by making them able to duck and cover.
Even so, there is definitely a noticeable difference in the tactical benefits brought in by the robots, as Gamespot notes. The mechanical soldiers can even make it so human soldiers only get a scratch in battle and only one of them at that.
