Blizzard Entertainment has a slate of major announcements this spring, especially for the “Warcraft” universe. The developer confirmed it would reveal the next expansion for “World of Warcraft” next month.
Announcements of “World of Warcraft” expansions were usually reserved for the company’s annual BlizzCon. Like many video game companies, though, large events have been turned into virtual showcases for the past couple of years.
Blizzard maintains this format, at least for the announcement of the next “World of Warcraft” expansion. The developer announced in a blog post on Monday that a special online event will take place on April 19, where the follow-up to the “Shadowlands” saga will be unveiled.
The company is keeping details about the upcoming “World of Warcraft” expansion under wraps, though, and no other information was provided in the blog post. For now, players can focus on completing the final installment to the “Shadowlands” expansion titled “Eternity’s End.”
The update, released last Feb. 22, brings players into a new location called Zereth Mortis where their main goal is to beat the Jailer in changing the course of Azeroth’s history. “This past week we have seen brave adventurers make their way into the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid zone on Normal and Heroic difficulty, and this week they will finally come face-to-face with the Jailer himself as Raid Finder and Mythic difficulties become available,” Blizzard said.
The upcoming “World of Warcraft” expansion is not the only major announcement Blizzard has planned in the coming months. In the same blog post, the developer confirmed that it would present the first-ever “Warcraft” game designed for mobile platforms sometime in May.
Blizzard did not provide more information about the mobile game aside from confirming it is also set in the “Warcraft” universe. It is then possible that the mobile game might not be a simple port of any existing “Warcraft” titles.
Before the “World of Warcraft” announcements, Blizzard will also host an event for “Hearthstone” players. The team behind the free-to-play collectible card game will present the first three expansions to be released this year. Sometime after this event, the developers will also release the 2022 roadmap for the game.
