Woowa Brothers Corp. launched its food delivery robot and began door-to-door delivery service at a shopping mall in Gangnam. The machine is capable of making deliveries in a 55-story Trade Tower and COEX mall shopping center.
It is a self-driving robot called the "Dilly Tower" that was deployed by Woowa Brothers under its food delivery app called the Baedal Minjok food delivery, which is also known as Baemin. The robot will be touring the huge shopping and convention location, Starfield COEX Mall, and the neighboring Trade Tower in Seoul.
As per The Korea Economic Daily, Woowa Brothers said earlier this week that its Baedal Minjok brand already started its robot delivery service last month, covering the mall and the tower. It is expected to make deliveries to the buildings’ estimated 3,600 office workers. The robots service two underground floors and 55 levels about the ground.
Office workers can avail of the cutting-edge service by simply placing their orders under the "robot delivery" section of the Baedal Minjok app. They can choose a store and menu, and the robots will deliver the food to their respective office floors.
Under the trial service, the robot delivery service is only linked to six stores that sell simple dishes and beverages such as coffee. Customers can also order sandwiches and desserts.
People who placed orders for robot deliveries can also check the status of their orders in real-time through the KakaTalk messaging app. They will be provided with details, including the time the order left the store and the estimated time of arrival. They can also see the location of the robot via the COEX Mall map.
“We are now able to introduce indoor delivery robot services at COEX Mall and Trade Tower, which are visited by tens of thousands of people every day,” Woowa Brothers’ robot delivery service group chief, Joseph Kim, said in a press release. “For next year, we are preparing an indoor and outdoor D2D robot delivery service that delivers food from stores near Teheran-ro to offices or residential facilities.”
