"Vinland Saga” episode 12 will probably pick up right where the previous installment ended. Prince Canute is safe under the protection of Askeladd and his men along with Ragnar and the Danish priest. However, they will be needing some reinforcements if they want to avoid an ambush led by Thorkell.
‘Vinland Saga’ episode 12 spoilers: Who are Askeladd’s reinforcements
The upcoming episode is titled “A Country on the Other Side,” and it is actually a hint at the reinforcements Askeladd will rely on in “Vinland Saga” episode 12. It can be recalled that Askeladd’s tactics, albeit unplanned, worked well to save Canute without having to fight Thorkell head-on. However, the latter promised that they will still pursue them since both groups are headed to the same location anyway.
The “Vinland Saga” episode 12 will likely begin with Askeladd approaching an old man guarding the ferry port. He then pays the elderly to deliver a message across the river addressed to anyone with authority. Thorkell’s men are not far away from Askeladd, and the latter is only less than a day worth of march ahead of the Jomsviking commander.
Fans may have noticed that the “Vinland Saga” episode 12 preview shows a silhouette of two men meeting with Askeladd. These are his reinforcements. They will provide him with two ships described in the manga as having the ability to sail and dock very quietly.
“Vinland Saga” episode 12’s title refers to Wales, specifically the small kingdom of Morgannwg. The manga counterpart of this episode hints that this is not the first time Askeladd has had transactions with the leaders of Morgannwg.
As can be expected, Askeladd uses Canute as leverage to solicit help from Morgannwg. But the leaders of the kingdom also have their own demand before helping Canute safely escape from Thorkell. Once the Danish wins in England, they want Canute to declare Wales’s autonomy from the empire.
‘Vinland Saga’ episode 12 release date
There might not be action-packed fights in “Vinland Saga” episode 12, but it is still an important installment. The events taking place will establish more of Canute’s personality, making his character development a spectacle in future episodes.
Canute is still a timid 17-year-old prince, but the upcoming episode will put him in a position where he has to decide like a monarch slated to become a king. “Vinland Saga” episode 12 will be released in late Sunday, Sept. 29.
