A series regular may soon be joining Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) in the grave in “Vikings” Season 5. As seen in the latest trailer for the upcoming season, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) doesn’t seem to be in the best of shape after Ivar the Boneless’ (Alex Hogh Andersen) victory, and it sounds like she already has one foot in the grave.
Viewers already know that Lagertha’s fate is sealed after the Seer (John Kavanagh) prophesized that she will die at the hands of one of Ragnar’s son. Fans who have been following the show since the first season should know that the Seer is never wrong. He has already predicted a lot of things like Rollo (Clive Standen) marrying Princess Gisla (Morgane Polanski), the rise of the Great Heathen Army after Ragnar’s death, Bjorn’s (Alexander Ludwig) journey to the Mediterranean Sea, and more. Will the Seer’s prophecy about Lagertha’s demise come true in “Vikings” Season 5?
Whatever happens, Lagertha seems ready to face her death. In an interview with TVLine earlier this year, Winnick even noted that her character felt at peace with her fate.
"I feel like since that prophecy, since that meeting with the Seer, I feel like she has gotten to a stage of her life that has a certain amount of peace," Winnick said. "She's not acting out of fear. She's not trying to change fate. If anything, she knows that's how she'll go: that one day, a son will kill her. A son of Ragnar will kill Lagertha. But it gives her certain a strength and a certain courage, and she definitely goes into every experience being grateful and kind, but also fearless," she continued.
In any case, it will be interesting to see if this will the final season for Winnick. “Vikings” Season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on the History Channel.
